Adoption Policy and Required Fees
The Blue Mountain Humane Association is a non-profit humane organization committed to the welfare of all animals in our care, and thus considers pet ownership a serious responsibility. In order to adopt an animal from the shelter, you must:
Our adoption fee includes: Adoption quarantee: Fee Schedule
Cats: $20.00 plus spaying fee of $47.00, or neutering fee of $25.00 if needed.
(Rabies shots are available at our annual March Rabies Clinic, or you can have your cat vacinated at any veterinarian office.) Dogs: $30.00 plus spaying fee of $59.00+, or neutering fee of $46.00+ Ferrets: $50.00. Animals must be descented, reproductively altered, and have Rabbits: $15.00. Reproductive alteration is not required. Small Rodents: $5.00. Reproductive alteration is not required. Guinea Pigs: $10.00. Reproductive alteration is not required. Hedge Hogs: $35.00. Reproductive alteration is not required. Small Reptiles: $25.00. Reproductive alteration is not required. Large Reptiles: $45.00. Reproductive alteration is not required. Small Birds: $10.00. Application Information In order to assist you in finding that special pet which meets your lifestyle as well as being in the animal's best interest, you will need to provide some information to an adoption counseler who will assist you in completing the adoption process. This information includes such information as your reason for the adoption, your ability to care for your new pet, type of residence where the pet will reside, numbers and age of residence members, known allergies of persons of the residence, your experience with pet ownership, knowledge of species behavior, and local laws regarding pet ownership. The Animal Shelter Staff reserves the right to refuse adoption to anyone for any reason. No animals will be adopted to persons having an extensive history of losing, giving away, selling, or having animals injured or killed by moving vehicles. It is BMHA policy that all purebred dogs will be sterilized before leaving the Shelter. The Animal Shelter Staff also reserves the right to require that any animal be spayed or neutered before the animal goes to a new home. In some cases a premise inspection by an Animal Control Officer or Humane Society representative may be necessary before the adoption process can be completed.
