How to Volunteer at the
Animal Shelter
In order to volunteer to work with the animals at the Animal Shelter, you have to attend a Volunteer Orientation which is held the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 5:30 at the Animal Shelter. After attending the Volunteer Orientation you will fill out an application and attend a one-on-one session to understand how to work with the cats or dogs.
All volunteers are required to attend this orientation and minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
After orientation, shelter volunteers need to commit to at least 3 hours/month for the first three months. No experience is required; however, the love of animals is a must. We are looking for dedicated people who are serious about making a commitment. You will find working with animals to be extremely rewarding. Be a hero, increase the adoptability of our animals and make their stay at the Animal Shelter more enjoyable.
Volunteering opportunities include: Dog Walking, Advanced Dog Walking, Dog & Puppy Socialization, Cat Grooming & Socializing, Foster Care, Fundraising, and Training, and Socializing Shy Cats.
We have a library of training materials that are available to any volunteer who has gone through the orientation. We will also have face-to-face trainings at least every other month from March – November. Announcements for these trainings will be posted in the volunteer room at the Animal Shelter.
If you are interested in volunteering, please attend our next training. If you want to come prepared, please download our Volunteer Application – click here.
